The Cowell Family Cancer Center features state-of-the-art mechanical systems designed to ensure a healing environment that is both comfortable and efficient. At the core of the center's HVAC system are advanced air handling units (AHUs) equipped with variable air volume (VAV) technology and chilled water cooling systems.

Heating is provided through a combination of hot water re-heat in the terminal units and supplemental baseboard radiation.

The system incorporates a multistage stack chiller and energy recovery systems designed to reclaim the waste heat generated by the facility’s numerous CT and MRI scanners. This innovative approach not only reduces the environmental footprint but also improves the overall energy efficiency of the center.

The facility also houses a large compounding pharmacy that is equipped with ECM Fan Filtered Units, ensuring ultra-clean air quality crucial for drug preparation. Stringent pressure requirements are meticulously maintained in the drug mixing spaces to prevent contamination and ensure the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals.
